I’ve seen the cover of this movie for a long time now and only got to rent and watch it today.   At first I thought it was some heroic cop show – like most – but this cop show definitely had a twist.  While we all thought that cops in the states are well paid and have huge houses – this show portrayed a different light to Brooklyn’s cops.  The setting was old and dirty and even the lockers of the cops were pathetic.  And according to this show – the cops starts only with $20K a year with some  Medicare plan and insurance of $100K if you die in the line of duty.  Now how do one survive with only $20K a year?  Lucky for us here – I know the cops gets a lot more in medicare – because their entire family are covered by some sort of health benefit – from your parents to your wife and kids. And I know the cops here gets paid a lot more with housing benefits too.

Anyhow – with Richard Gere in this show i just had to watch it.  So Richard Gere plays the bitter and retire mode veteran cop in Brooklyn.  And another detective by the name of Sal (Ethan Hawke)- whose wife is pregnant – and already has a few kids try to steal drug money because the need to move to a better house for his wife and children’s health condition.  And then Tango played by Don Cheadle – excellent performance here – is an undercover detective going crazy fighting with his good guy and bad guy conscience.

Eddie played by Richard Gere is a non action cop waiting to retire and wouldn’t do nothing but the day he handed over his badge – went on a lone ranger suicide mission with one bullet in his gun – crazy!  to rescue a missing girl kidnapped by sex traffickers.  The same night Sal – went on his own to bust a drug den to get money for the deposit of his house and Tango’s mission was to kill those who killed bad ass Caz (Wesley Snipes) because he once saved his life.  All 3 cops pretty screwed up if you asked me and of course – the police department is also corrupted – not the money sense but trying to save face in front of the public.  Pretty heavy stuff if you asked me.  Anyhow – lots of blood and a pretty violent movie and nudity involved.  Not suitable for kids under 16 please!

So I wasn’t too keen on this show – but the kids went on and on – saying “pleaseeee mom! pleaseeeeee mom!” so i gave in like a sucker of course.   Jude Law and Forest Whitaker the guy with the pug look is in it – so you see why I wasn’t too, too keen.  Nothing against him – mind you ! the for the life of me – can’t understand how he became so famous.  Turned out wasn’t too bad a show – but definitely grossed and makes no sense that people get killed because they can’t make payment.  Not a very nice show for the younger kids though – and in the end – well, kinda disappointed that Jude wasn’t able to destroy “The Union” but all a dream.   Watch it if you must – but i would hate to think that our future might be this way.

In the future humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called “The Union”. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don’t pay your bill, “The Union” sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property… with no concern for your comfort or survival. Former soldier Remy is one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company’s top-of-the-line heart-replacement… as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart’s no longer in the job. When he can’t make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy’s former partner Jake, to track him down.

Our basement is currently being turned into a entertainment room for the spouse and kids – as you can see – we are quite the movie freak or rather fan.  The kids had suggested some entertainment chairs and of course the spouse wants some power lift chair for the in-laws who comes by often enough.  Power recliner was what he was actually looking for and they want to paint the room to fit their geeky status – so the kids said.  I know the spouse would love it – because it’s so comfy – and since it’s reclining – i bet he will be sleeping in the entertainment room more – well, it’s better than seeing him slouch and doze off at the couch we have – at least if he does that – i can just blanket him and go to bed on my own. We will be showing you our entertainment room once it is all done.

So we were out getting prices for the whole house water filter because the kids said that the water tasted funny from the town.  Plus, we do want to be safe – since we are drinking tap water and not bottled water. Why water filter for the whole house i was asked – because it reduces the presence of sediment and chlorine taste and odor.  In fact, I hear some really good products can reduce the presence of contaminants such as mercury, lead, nitrates herbicides, pesticides and the works.

Anyhow, after pricing everything we needed – we went to get some movies and picked Kick Ass for the entire family.  We love Hit Girl played by Chloe Moretz and of course Big Daddy played by Nicholas Cage. I’m not extra – extra keen on Dave Livewski who is a high school student who is into comic books and thus decided one day to become one but without the Super Power.   So he wants to fight crimes but instead got beaten up really bad – which makes him look a wee bit stupid till he met Hit Girl and her father Big Daddy.  And of course, lets not forget Red Mist – who is the son of the drug dealer  – who tried to infiltrate the gang – to find out their identity.  Pretty cool movie in a way – but sad in the end.  See it yourself – and tell me if you feel the same way.
