I actually came across this new show by fluke – course – i was looking for coupons for buying some shoes and to shop at Sears online. You all know how I love the discount and every little bit of savings means a lot to a mother who has a few kids. I never used to be like this – till i have kids – what about you? are you like that too? anyhow – while looking for coupons for shoes – i saw this big advertisement on the papers for this new tv show that started in June 2010. I had thought to myself it was like a kid’s show – so i didn’t think very much about it at that time – afterall, coupons comes first eh haha!
Well, i caught the pilot online a month ago and was quite intrigue by all these pretty gals – yes – all the 4 actresses relatively new to me – but darn pretty and have nice names. Aria, Hannah, Spencer and Emily. I was skeptical after the pilot but I still watched it outta curiousity and after going thru’ a few episode – I kinda like it. Ok – here’s the quick synopsis about it.
Apparently, 4 good friends shares some secret with a girl that went missing – last summer – Allison. When found dead and buried in her own backyard a few episodes later – the 4 girls start getting text messages from an anonymous person “A” telling the girls she knows all about their secret. But many episodes later – i’m still confused as to what the secret might be. It’s a pretty good plot – if you can watch it after the first 3 episodes – but it reminds me a bit about Gossip Girls – the mysterious person behind all those text messages. Have fun – i’m sure you might like it – not a bad show for the family as well – but not for too, too young kids please.
Fans of Weeds – the pretty housewife turned drug dealer – will be happy to know that Season 6 is out – check out the sneak peek.
Was it good – not bad – but much anticipation – didn’t really work out to be as good as I had hoped – pretty slow and only 25 mins of show – so let me know what you think. But I’m a big fan of Weeds – just make sure the kids are not around when you watch them.
I’m surprised that I didn’t write about this show for I watched it like a month ago. A girlfriend recommended it because she went for the opening in the local theatre here and received all sorts of promotional tote bags from the show – so i heard. I wished I could keep up with stuff like that – love promotional items – don’t you? anything free is good eh. But i especially love tote bags!!! can’t get enough of them – so useful I find them.
Anyhow – the joke about Cooking With Stella is Canada’s answer to Julie and Julia – is just too funny – because the show is NOTHING like Julie and Julia. Nevertheless, it was a pretty good movie – but doesn’t portray India very nicely i must say. Housekeeper/cook of the Canadian High Comm in New Delhi – Stella played by Seema Biswas (relatively unknown) to us, although cooks well – but in my honest opinion steals from her very simple minded or too trusting employers. New posted couple Michael and Maya arrived treating Stella like one of their own but instead Stella ganged up with new nanny – Tannu who needed money – to fake her own kidnapped. I have mixed feelings about the show – because it sure doesn’t teach good values – and i came out of the show – feeling kinda disgusted by how dishonest people can be. So watch it if you must but the moral is just wrong.
We rented this movie because of the youngest – he is still very young – so if we wanted to watch a movie with him – it had to be a kid – kid movie. Grey Heffley played by cute little Zachary Gordon – who is just starting middle school expects the worst but trying to be the most like and popular kid in school. He also has a brother – who is nothing but horrid to him. The more Greg tries to fit in, the more he became an outcast. My kid like the sketches during the school most – from the diary that Greg kept to survive his middle school ordeal. And of course, I recognized Chloe Moretz from Kick Ass although she looked a lot more taller in this show. So yes – do watch it – with your kids – it was fun for the entire family.
I’ve seen the cover of this movie for a long time now and only got to rent and watch it today. At first I thought it was some heroic cop show – like most – but this cop show definitely had a twist. While we all thought that cops in the states are well paid and have huge houses – this show portrayed a different light to Brooklyn’s cops. The setting was old and dirty and even the lockers of the cops were pathetic. And according to this show – the cops starts only with $20K a year with some Medicare plan and insurance of $100K if you die in the line of duty. Now how do one survive with only $20K a year? Lucky for us here – I know the cops gets a lot more in medicare – because their entire family are covered by some sort of health benefit – from your parents to your wife and kids. And I know the cops here gets paid a lot more with housing benefits too.
Anyhow – with Richard Gere in this show i just had to watch it. So Richard Gere plays the bitter and retire mode veteran cop in Brooklyn. And another detective by the name of Sal (Ethan Hawke)- whose wife is pregnant – and already has a few kids try to steal drug money because the need to move to a better house for his wife and children’s health condition. And then Tango played by Don Cheadle – excellent performance here – is an undercover detective going crazy fighting with his good guy and bad guy conscience.
Eddie played by Richard Gere is a non action cop waiting to retire and wouldn’t do nothing but the day he handed over his badge – went on a lone ranger suicide mission with one bullet in his gun – crazy! to rescue a missing girl kidnapped by sex traffickers. The same night Sal – went on his own to bust a drug den to get money for the deposit of his house and Tango’s mission was to kill those who killed bad ass Caz (Wesley Snipes) because he once saved his life. All 3 cops pretty screwed up if you asked me and of course – the police department is also corrupted – not the money sense but trying to save face in front of the public. Pretty heavy stuff if you asked me. Anyhow – lots of blood and a pretty violent movie and nudity involved. Not suitable for kids under 16 please!
So I wasn’t too keen on this show – but the kids went on and on – saying “pleaseeee mom! pleaseeeeee mom!” so i gave in like a sucker of course. Jude Law and Forest Whitaker the guy with the pug look is in it – so you see why I wasn’t too, too keen. Nothing against him – mind you ! the for the life of me – can’t understand how he became so famous. Turned out wasn’t too bad a show – but definitely grossed and makes no sense that people get killed because they can’t make payment. Not a very nice show for the younger kids though – and in the end – well, kinda disappointed that Jude wasn’t able to destroy “The Union” but all a dream. Watch it if you must – but i would hate to think that our future might be this way.
In the future humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called “The Union”. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don’t pay your bill, “The Union” sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property… with no concern for your comfort or survival. Former soldier Remy is one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company’s top-of-the-line heart-replacement… as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart’s no longer in the job. When he can’t make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy’s former partner Jake, to track him down.
Our basement is currently being turned into a entertainment room for the spouse and kids – as you can see – we are quite the movie freak or rather fan. The kids had suggested some entertainment chairs and of course the spouse wants some power lift chair for the in-laws who comes by often enough. Power recliner was what he was actually looking for and they want to paint the room to fit their geeky status – so the kids said. I know the spouse would love it – because it’s so comfy – and since it’s reclining – i bet he will be sleeping in the entertainment room more – well, it’s better than seeing him slouch and doze off at the couch we have – at least if he does that – i can just blanket him and go to bed on my own. We will be showing you our entertainment room once it is all done.
So we were out getting prices for the whole house water filter because the kids said that the water tasted funny from the town. Plus, we do want to be safe – since we are drinking tap water and not bottled water. Why water filter for the whole house i was asked – because it reduces the presence of sediment and chlorine taste and odor. In fact, I hear some really good products can reduce the presence of contaminants such as mercury, lead, nitrates herbicides, pesticides and the works.
Anyhow, after pricing everything we needed – we went to get some movies and picked Kick Ass for the entire family. We love Hit Girl played by Chloe Moretz and of course Big Daddy played by Nicholas Cage. I’m not extra – extra keen on Dave Livewski who is a high school student who is into comic books and thus decided one day to become one but without the Super Power. So he wants to fight crimes but instead got beaten up really bad – which makes him look a wee bit stupid till he met Hit Girl and her father Big Daddy. And of course, lets not forget Red Mist – who is the son of the drug dealer – who tried to infiltrate the gang – to find out their identity. Pretty cool movie in a way – but sad in the end. See it yourself – and tell me if you feel the same way.
We were looking for movies that we can watch with our kids – without the nudity or any violence and of course – no horror in it. So we found Hot in Cleveland that is new sitcom that started only a few months ago – so we are currently playing catch up.
You all know Betty White right? from the Golden Girls – the a wee bit slow one – hahahah!! even thinking of her role then puts a smile on my face. And Wendy Malick from Cheers and as Nina Van Horn from Just Shoot Me. With Jane Leeves the British actress in Murphy Brown andValerie Anne Bertinelli from One Day At A Time (she – i’m not so familiar with). All good actresses if i might say so – and in the first episode – i already saw a familiar face – an actor.
The sitcom is about 3 middle age woman who were on their way to Paris but had a detour in Cleveland because of flight problems but instead decided to stay in Cleveland for the rest of their 3 weeks vacation – only to come to love Cleveland because the men there thinks they are beautiful – while in LA everyone is hotter than themselves. I do like the sitcom – maybe because i can relate to them – so far the kids haven’t gotten bored yet or said yukky things about it – so for now – we’ll keep watching with them – til they get tired of old fart shows – hahah!
New movies for this week – i managed to get a sneak peek of it when they were putting it up tonight for tomorrow. You all know that new releases comes out on Tuesdays right? I am not very much into shows like the Clash of the Titans but I would definitely watch Warloads – i hope they have the cantonese version of it – that way the kids can watch in English and i can watch in Cantonese. Jet Li is in this movie – i know it’s actually an old movie that got re dubbed into English – the movie is from 2007.
Repo Men is the other big movie that came out this week – I’m going to watch that too. So look out for a review here shortly after this week. Those who likes Jude Law – don’t forget to get it from your favorite local store. Forest Whitaker – the guy who looks like a pug – is also the other lead in the show.
